The fifth anticipated release by artist Ruban Nielson better known as Unknown Mortal Orchestra is still in stock here at Soundmerch! With only one purple release left, in store only. Hazy, intimate and unconventionally uplifting, Nielson is a master at creating a nostalgic yet fresh vibe for those slower days. A tang of the bittersweet is what makes this record so intriguing, although there is still plenty of room for a more 'refined' sound. Perhaps sticking to your comfort zone can be just that- too comfortable. That's not to say the songs at their cores aren't a jam, sometimes I just wonder of what they could of become in all their polished glory. Not my art not my say and this particular fog aesthetic is why UMO is so successful, leading the way for the past decade when it comes to what is currently considered 'indie' in the genre void of music, and that is a tremendous feat. A dreamy listen nonetheless!
