Empty Maps is a 13-track, piano-based record by multidisciplinary artist Jack Vanzet under the moniker Thrupence, written during Melbourne’s COVID-19 lockdowns. The album delves into themes of communication, connection, family, love, and heartache, created out of necessity rather than intent. It was a place to process relationship shifts, mental health struggles, and life’s uncertainty when the world paused. The writing served as a way to express what words couldn’t convey, resulting in music that feels honest and reflective. Drawing from personal and family history, the visuals accompanying the album reflect the deeply autobiographical nature of the work. While it captures moments of introspection, Empty Maps isn’t just somber—it follows an arc that holds moments of light and positivity. Intentionally fragmented and unpolished, the record speaks to authenticity and sincerity, embodying the raw, unfiltered emotions of that period. This record became more than just music; it was a way to understand and connect when communication felt out of reach.
