Shock Corridor is a record that speaks to the 6-year lifespan between the band and ultimately, their connection in the world they share. Expanding on debut EP, the melancholic and stark: I’m Afraid I’ve Lost My Way, swooning single: In Your Orbit, and gutteral tracks Mayday! and Drag Nets, their self-titled debut is a culmination of these sounds – the dark, stark and harrowing to the quiet intimate confessions that make up the through-line of their music. Shock Corridor is an album that reflects on the genuine need for human connection, and the reasons we maintain them – addressing those conversations and reflections as to when they’re lost and when they’re reignited. Utilising dark wave, trip-hop and post-punk influences, the sonic backing to such subjects expands in sub-heavy beats and 808’s, to quieter, orchestral led moments which initiate breathing room and reflection. 

Perpetually influenced by Melbourne’s musical history, their debut album is built on the sounds and bands that are woven into their home city’s lifespan. Taking from the influences that they were raised on, Shock Corridor’s sound has become a melting pot, filled with Seaview Ballroom comparison to Bristolian appreciation. Being described as a “Frankenstein’s monster”, the result is something that stands on its own two feet, both in its subject matter but also sonically, as something that ultimately exists to reckon with the human condition.
