Poison City is thrilled to introduce Fancy Weapon; an exciting new Melbourne band featuring four highly credentialed musicians that have all spent decades in the rock n roll game, each continuing to leave an indelible mark across the underground music landscape.

An unlikely band name and a most unlikely band. Fancy Weapon melds a cross-generational bunch of Melbourne music perennials - Mick Turner (Dirty Three, Mess Esque, Bleak Squad), Joel Silbersher (GOD, Hoss) and Claire Birchall (Smoked Salmon, Paper Planes) - joined by recent transplant Guy Maddison (Mudhoney / Lubricated Goat), to make a singular brand of minimalist, incandescent guitar-heavy rock music, both timeless a n d refreshing in the current context.

The 'Melbourne music perennials" thing is key here, even if Guy is a latecomer to the local scene. In a city of dedicated musicians, the Fancy Weapon people remain dedicated. They're not kids, but they all still play in multiple bands, continuing to forge paths of highly creative output & music admired through the generations & across the globe.

First playing out in early 2025, Fancy Weapon have a number of well-received local shows joining the likes of The Double, The Beasts, Penny kinger and Toody Cole (Dead Moon/ Pierced Arrows) with more live shows announced shortly.

The songs for Fancy Weapon's debut album were recorded in a single session at Finn Keane's Head Gap studios in Preston in late 2024, a week before the studio tragically burned to the ground after a neiahbouring business was criminally torched. Fortunately the sessions were saved a n d Finn & the band were able to continue mixing and finishing the record at an alternative studio.

If the combination of Fancy Weapon's vast experience isn't intriguing enough, the instant chemisty heard across this album should delight any fans of brooding, Australian art-rock-n-roll. The interplay a n d shared vocals from Claire and Joel are powerful, Mick Turner's iconic guitar approach stabs and weaves throughout while Claire (drums) and Guy's (bass) rythmic backbone sounds like they've been playing together for vears!
