Karl Frog 'Yes, Music' 12” Black Vinyl

Following on from his first two albums ‘I Love Music’ and ‘Why Music?’ released through Melbourne based label Hidiotic, Karl Frog's third outfit is a much more affirmative approach, aptly titled ‘Yes, Music’. A collection of 11 songs, all in a similar vein to his previous work, tap into a myriad of influences, while so distinctively remaining as a whole.

Karl Frog, a Canberrian/Estonian, has worked as an office assistant, a printer technician, a teacher and a baggage handler. In his spare time, he is an amateur musician. Tinkering away at bedroom recordings and stumbling across melodic gems as he goes, ‘Yes, Music’ is an eclectic album, channeling everything from new-wave, modern jangle, synth pop, and even some slight baroque influences. Frog himself endearingly describes it as ‘ambivalent digital boogie’.

Karl describes his own influences to include Phil Lynott, Deborah Levy & the rock band Terry. Personally, I can hear moments reminiscent of early weird-pop-era Brian Eno, often featuring elements of baroque strings, blurring the lines between synthetic and natural instruments.

Karl Frog remains a unique voice in the songwriting world, creating albums perfect for crate-diggers to find in years to come and be enamoured by a truly individualistic record.
