Using her formidable voice to fight for the betterment of the music industry and rally against sexism, racism and all forms of structural inequality, she has never shied away from the uncomfortable and difficult topics that dominate the news cycle. So when McDonald describes her debut solo album, Pleaser (Run For Cover/Poison City Records) as "a love album", it's immediately clear that this is a step in a different artistic direction. "I think the main theme is love, obviously, all kinds of love. Love that you walked away from so you could love yourself, unrequited love, forgiving love, love with no point to it," she explains.

The album opens strategically with "Away From Love" - the only time guitar is featured on all of Pleaser, with the rest of the album done entirely electronically. "Away From Love" and "Like A Shadow" were recorded with Darcy Baylis, while the other songs on the record were produced by Run For Cover Records labelmate Katie Dey. Pleaser's 8 tracks shimmer and pulsate, calling to mind pop artists like Lorde, Robyn, Charli XCX and Gwen Stefani. "I took more time to record the songs and play around with them, and I liked that because I could change things and experiment more," McDonald says, continuing "I think the pressure of working with other people drove me to finish the songs, which I hated but also loved because it's nice to be challenged."

While McDonald may have felt challenged while writing Pleaser, the experience of listening to the album is anything but difficult. Running With The Hurricane reflects on faltered romances, secret crushes and vibrating with the confidence that makes you feel like you’re on fire. It’s about taking comfort in knowing who you are, feeling yourself and returning, always, to the city of Melbourne. If Camp Cope’s self-titled debut (2016) was the spark, and How To Socialise & Make Friends (2018) was the fire, Running with the Hurricane is Camp Cope in the calm after the storm. As Maq describes it, “The first record was us diving into whatever Camp Cope created, the second album was us when we were in the thick of it, and then this album is about how we’ve come out the other side. And we’ve come out stronger, more loving, more peaceful and better friends.”

For this album the band spent longer in the studio, taking the time to fine tune every aspect of the album and layer in piano, backing vocals and additional guitar.

The album's lead single ‘Pony’ sits alongside a playful video clip directed by Izzie Austin (Romero, RVG, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard). Cycling through vulnerable meditations on what it means to create, The Music That I Make shows Leah Senior at her most intimate, transporting listeners to her sandstone shack in Anglesea where old world folk meets late night AM radio. The Music That I Make sees Leah Senior moving away from the springtime baroque pop featured on The Passing Scene and into deep hearted, masterful songwriting with confessional lyrics and intimate vocals centre stage. It’s opener, also the album’s title track, could just as easily soundtrack a Saturday morning coffee at home as a late night melancholic moment; ‘Clearest View’ - her “cryptic hippie protest song” - showcases crystalline harmonies, while on ‘The Fig’ she recalls a friend who regretted giving her best years to pursuing a career in music. Calling in inspirations from The Bell Jar to poems by Emily Dickinson, she muses on writing songs to show her the way back to herself (‘Where Am I Now?’), the redemptive nature of love (‘Greed Is A Cloud’), and how freeing our unconscious can be as simple as blurting things out quicker than you think (‘The Critic’).

Tracklisting:

1. It's raw and fierce, yet seeped in tradition, discipline and skillset shared through generations of the Xylouris family.

*Please note vinyl colour will differ to mock up image.

Tracklisting:

1. 100°C

Working with engineer Anna Laverty at Sing Sing Recording Studios, who produced the album alongside Maq, the trio were able to create something with the overall plan of, as bassist Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich notes, “just do something that makes us happy and might make other people feel good too.” They brought in friends Courtney Barnett and Shauna Boyle of Cable Ties to provide added instrumentation on ‘Caroline’/’Sing Your Heart Out’ and ‘One Wink At A Time’ respectively. The resulting sound is still recognisably Camp Cope, just a little softer, a bit more relaxed and much more refined.

Tracklisting:

A1 Caroline
A2 Running with the Hurricane
A3 One Wink at a Time
A4 Blue
A5 The Screaming Planet
B1 Love Like You Do
B2 Jealous
B3 The Mountain
B4 Say the Line
B5 Sing Your Heart Out

Grinding Eyes 'Out Of Focus' LP Purple Vinyl

Led by the pulsing rocker ‘We Move Slowly', Out Of Focus is thundering ride through waves of droning guitars, lush melodic hooks and driving kraut inspired repetition. That album included many new developments in the band’s evolution that earned them significant praise - most notably the Nick-Cave-featured “Macca The Mutt”, the surprisingly radio-friendly skronk of “Fruits Of Labour,” & the epic string-drenched beauty of “Risky Behaviour.”

As with its predecessor, Crime In Australia was written, recorded, produced and mixed by the duo themselves in their studio in Marrickville, Sydney. This time, the location was more of an influence than on previous occasions, as Boulet explains: “Marrickville in the 1960s-70s was a notorious crime hot spot. If a car was stolen, or someone was missing, they’d look for them in Marrickville. Since then, the area has been highly gentrified and slowly the once grimy industrial warehouse lined streets are being swapped for monstrous apartment blocks with palm trees. We began without any theme in mind, just the beginnings of some song ideas. As we were discovering the songs for this album, each song felt more and more at home in an old cop tv series soundtrack. The Crime theme quickly became apparent.

The record feels split into two contrasting sides: The first half is ‘order’, being as listenable as Party Dozen has ever been. Each song is law abiding and dignified in its own place. The second half is ‘disorder,’ becoming more unlawful, unhinged, louder and noisier.” While plenty of people all over the world have found Party Dozen to be perfectly listenable, even at their loudest and wildest, the first side does feature some of their least abrasive moments to date. Certainly, album opener “Coup De Gronk” – described by the band as both “as catchy and danceable as we’ve ever been” and “one of Jono’s many dumb ideas” – is a lower barrier-to-entry than what introduced any of their first three albums.

Crime In Australia will be Party Dozen’s 4th studio album, following on from The Real Work (2022), their 2017 debut The Living Man and 2020’s Pray For Party Dozen. The Real Work was Album of the Week in Stereogum, Bandcamp and Brooklyn Vegan amongst others. It was the Feature Album across five Australian community radio stations & received support globally from 6 Music, KCRW and KEXP, who filmed a live session in Seattle.

Tracklisting:

1.
